The preface or afterword of the creative dissertation is a critical essay of approximately 75 pages, which may cover any subject reasonably connected to but not directly engaging the creative work of the candidate, such as a group of writings, a genre, a school of writers, a historical theme, theory, style or diction. This will be an exercise in publishable literary criticism or a more informal literary essay, which demonstrates the candidate's professional maturity.

Although & ldquo close reading& rdquo and & ldquo distant reading& rdquo seem like opposite terms at first glance, there is actually a correlation between them. & ldquo Close reading& rdquo is a very-focused, intensive reading of a single text while & ldquo distant reading& rdquo ties several texts together to form a larger scale and is much more of a collaborative effort than & ldquo close reading.& rdquo However, for the past one-hundred years people have been using both methods to gain a clearer and larger understanding of the texts in question.
Whilst modernist drama on the European continent is characterised by a variety of pronouncedly anti-realist tendencies, modern English drama continues the tradition of Realism. The module explores the main contrasts and affinities between these modernist and realist trends, focusing on major innovative approaches to Realism and on precursors and varieties of modernist drama from 6885-6985. Through a close reading of representative texts, you will be introduced to a range of dramatic forms and techniques of the period in question. Examples from expressionist film will acquaint you with questions related to performance, stage set, and lighting.
I have always enjoyed English as it allows to us to articulate ideas and arguments, and see the world from different perspectives. The creative writing aspect of the degree allowed me to approach old concepts in different and interesting ways. I feel extremely grateful that you provided us with the means to get our work published. As creative writers, it’s important to get your work out there, and for you to enable us to do that is fantastic!
